Omonia’s miserable run in the play offs continued today as Anorthosis scored in the third minute of injury time at the GSP to secure all three points and mainatin their slim chances of catching league leaders AEL.
After a dull first half with little incident of note the away side took the lead in the 60th minute through the Bulgarian Marquinhos. Anorthosis looked in command until they lost their most influential player, the Colombian Ricardo Laborde, to a second yellow card in the 77th minute. The sending off handed the initiative back to the home side and they pressed their advantage home by scoring an equaliser in the 83rd through Cypriot international Stathis Aloneftis. But the visitors hit back to record another memorable win over the Greens in Nicosia when the Brazilian Evandro Roncatto popped up to score the winner with less than a minute of the match left to play.
It’s the second time this season Anorthosis has beaten Omonia at the GSP with 10 men this season.
The Nicosia side sit fourth in the table with 57 points and three games left to play, while Anorthosis are second on 59 points, also with three games remaining.
League leaders AEL remain top with 64 points and will play third placed APOEL (59 points) in Sunday’s big game in Nicosia
