Cyprus police authorities are preparing to police a game between Cypriot football team AEL and Turkish football team Fenerbahçe next Thursday, in Nicosia.
In statements to the press in Limassol, today, Police Spokesman Andreas Angelides said two meetings took place on Wednesday on the measures to be taken before, during and after the match.
A total of 1,140 Fenerbahçe fans are going to arrive to the GSP stadium from Cyprus’ northern Turkish occupied areas by bus, before AEL fans arrive at the stadium, just outside the capital.
All buses and their passengers will be screened by police checks at the crossing points between the occupied areas and the areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.
Police will also conduct strict checks at the stadium’s entrance, while similar measures will be in place when fans leave the stadium.
“Ensuring the safety of everybody is a priority for the police, Angelides said.
