On Sunday 21st May 2017, the Greek Orthodox Community of Leeds organised for the 5th year, a 5-mile sponsored walk in aid of the operational needs of the Community and its Greek School.
The walk started at 1.30pm at the main entrance of the Community Centre of the Three Hierarchs Church. It continued along Roundhay Road and into the 700 acres of Roundhay Park (one of the biggest city parks in Europe). The route also included a walk around the large 33 acre Waterloo Lake and returned to the church via Princes Avenue.
More than 35 people aged between 1 and 70+ years old participated in the walk! Fr. Michael Petrakis led the walk and committed to cross the finish line first. All participants enjoyed the walk, especially, Fr. Michael doing part of the route on a scooter!
The participants received their ‘Certificate of Completion’ on Sunday 28th May 2017 by Mr Fabian Hamilton, MP for NE Leeds for the last 20 years and prospective MP candidate who was visiting the Community.
With the donations collected or pledged by now it is anticipated that around £6,000 would have been raised. A very big thank you to all those that participated and to their sponsors. It was a truly sterling effort.
This fundraising campaign continues with further donations still being warmly welcomed! Donations can be made on the Community’s Just Giving page (https://www.justgiving.com/greekorthodoxcommunity-leeds).
