Stef Proving His Credentials

Continuing our series where we follow the progress of young Stefanos Charalambous in his Kart Racing career, we catch up with his latest exploits as he attempts to establish himself in a higher category amongst the big boys.

Stef has been on a steep learning curve in the Junior Rotax category since he moved up to it recently, and nowhere was this better illustrated than last week at the Peter Fletcher International racing circuit where he was knocked off the track more than once in his races, pushing him down the field, to get bogged down amongst the pack. However, Stef has clearly learnt from these experiences, because at the Kimbolton track in Cambridgeshire this weekend, he held his own to begin to make his mark amongst his new rivals.

Although Stef started down the grid in his heats he managed to finish 5th and 2nd to start 2nd in the final, which produced the day’s most thrilling race. Stef and his rival slugged it out like two boxers over the race’s 14 laps with the lead changing hands several times between them as they sped round the track, never more than 0.2 apart as they left the rest of the pack trailing in their wake. In the end Stef’s rival’s greater experience told and Stef had to settle for a second place podium finish as the two racers crossed the finishing line almost neck and neck.

So, a great performance by Stefanos which has made his fellow racers sit up and take notice, and we look forward to seeing if he can maintain his progress over the coming weeks.
