On July 20th, Cypriots will be marking 51 tragic years since Turkey’s illegal invasion and continued occupation of their island, homes and communities began. July 20th is also an active reminder to redouble our efforts for a free, united Cyprus.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides met with Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar, the UN Secretary-General and Ministers from the Guarantor Powers in Geneva in March. They agreed to appoint a UN envoy, introduce six confidence-building measures and to meet again in July.
The UK Government’s Europe Minister attended the meeting in March and the UK will continue to attend future meetings, including the upcoming meeting in July. This is because the UK is a Guarantor Power of the Republic of Cyprus, alongside Greece and Turkey. That is why our diaspora has a crucial role to play.
