Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy has said that the cooperation between Cyprus and Russia is based on a historic, political, cultural and religious tradition and that the Cyprus – Russian Festival constitutes a benchmark that reflects the strong ties between the two countries, which have been reinforced during the last years.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the festival, in the coastal town of Limassol, Osadchiy said that while 10 years have been completed since the first Cyprus – Russian Festival, this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War, and thanked Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, who was present at the ceremony, for his participation in the events in Russia to celebrate the Victory Day.
On his part, Limassol Mayor Andreas Christou expressed his satisfaction over the completion of 10 years since the first Cyprus-Russian Festival, adding that “it constitutes a step which reaffirms and enhances the cultural and other relations between the peoples of Cyprus and the Russian Federation.”
He also stressed the importance of the presence of a numerous Russian community in Limassol, which, as he said, contributes in growth and social well-being.
