This government is literally playing games with the fortune of the people, has left developments on the Cyprus problem to fate and is waiting, stressed the General Secretary of AKEL speaking to “Astra” radio station.
Mr. Anastasiades, said Mr. Kyprianou, behaves in a way that permits Turkey to promote its position, namely partition.
He also stressed that Mr. Anastasiades is serving his government’s communication needs to the detriment of the substance of specific issues.
Mr. Kyprianou also assigned responsibilities on the Turkish Cypriot leader as well, pointing out that Mr. Akinci was behaving in a totally confused manner after Crans Montana. However, he said, Mr. Akinci subsequently made a move with regards Turkey’s attempt to impose its will on the Cyprus problem, saying that the Greek Cypriot side should accept the framework as it was tabled and that a discussion should commence so that we can determine this framework.
However, instead of the President of the Republic accepting to enter into negotiations, he replied to Mr. Akinci that he must clarify what he means, along with Turkey’s position. This, Mr. Kyprianou noted, automatically shifts the responsibilities on to the Greek Cypriot side.
AKEL will continue its efforts through contacts, such as those it had in France, also with Turkish Cypriot parties, with the aim of resuming the talks on the Cyprus problem.
