Cypriot GP3 leader Tio Ellinas says the race for the title will go down to the wire as the championship reaches its climax.
Ellinas ground after finishing tenth in Hungary but still leads the GP3 Series albeit by a single point ahead of his closest rivals. A two-way abttle looks on the cards with just three venues to go in the championship and with Argentina’s Facu Regalia set to challenge him all the way.
However, Finland’s Aaro Vainio and Great Britain’s Jack Harvey are joint third, 16 points behind Ellinas and can’t be counted out.
“It was a bad race [Hungary] and we need to put it behind us”, admitted the 21-year-old Larnaca born racer. “We started off with some problems and then I faced a slow driver in front of me and ended up tenth instead of the top four which was what I was aiming for. Right now we need to look at the next three races which take place in Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and Abu Dhabi. At Spa last season, we were the fastest, at Monza I finished first while Abu Dhabi, in early November, will be a new experience for us all.”
His next race at Spa will be on August 24.
