A toddler has died in hospital five days after choking on a grape in a restaurant.
Two-year-old Jacob Jenkins reportedly stopped breathing for 30 minutes after swallowing the fruit at a Pizza Hut restaurant on Friday.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and put in an induced coma. He died on Wednesday.
A Pizza Hut spokesman said the firm was “devastated to learn of Jacob’s tragic death”.
The company said it was closing the Hartlepool Hut on Thursday as a “sign of respect”.
On Wednesday night, hundreds of yellow balloons were released on Seaton Carew seafront in his honour.
A fundraising page set up for his family has raised nearly £9,000.
