Tottenham – flat fire

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire in a block of flats on Lansdowne Road in Tottenham on Sunday morning.

Firefighters rescued four men and two women from the three storey block. Crews used ladders to rescue two of the men and two of the women from first and second floor windows while two other men in the property were rescued from the ground floor of the building. One man who had left the property before emergency services arrived was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where sadly he later died. There were no other injuries at the incident.

The fire left one of the flats in the ground floor block completely gutted and badly damaged the ground floor communal hallway.

The Brigade was called at 0854 and the fire was under control by 1017. Crews from Tottenham, Holloway, Edmonton and Hornsey fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s fire investigation team and the Metropolitan Police.
