Turkish Cypriot leader wants new way of leading island reunification talks

Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci asked that the way in which the United Nations talks for re-unifying the island are led, is revamped. Akinci said that the open-ended talks are going nowhere, and that a more-efficient way of pursuing the negotiations needs to be found.

His call comes months after the latest attempt to get the Cypriot Greeks and Turks to agree on unifying the island has failed. Akinci said that Turkey supports the idea of equal rights for the two largest ethnic communities on the island, and that this needs to be the basis for agreement.
