T/Cypriot side: no list of Turkish settlers at the negotiating table

Eroglu’s office says the Turkish Cypriot side gave no list of Turkish settlers at the negotiating table
Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (16.03.12) reports that the self-styled presidency of the breakaway regime has announced that the Turkish Cypriot side gave no list with names of Turkish settlers to the Greek Cypriot side and the United Nations during the negotiations process. In a written statement issued yesterday, Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu’s office argued that the news published on this matter aimed at “instigating the people”.

The announcement said that the Turkish Cypriot side carries out the negotiations without making any discrimination among its “citizens” and having the approach that all “TRNC citizens”, as the “citizens” of the breakaway regime are described, should become citizens of a united Cyprus.

The announcement described as “groundless” the news that the Turkish Cypriot side gave a list with the names of 55 thousand Turkish settlers during the second tripartite summit at Greentree and argued that this news was a part of a campaign to “instigate the people”, just like it happened some time ago when the information that the passports of the Republic of Cyprus would be prohibited for the Turkish Cypriots.

“The Turkish Cypriot side, just like it gave no list with names during the negotiating process, it has also not accepted and will not accept, at any stage, an approach, which lists the persons according to their ethnic origin”, argued the announcement, adding that the Turkish side continues to support the principle that the day when the solution is found, all citizens of both sides should become citizens of a united Cyprus.
