The hearing of an extradition request of a 50-year-old Greek Cypriot man, wanted by the United Kingdom for violating the terms of his release from prison began this week, a police report said on Tuesday.
According to the report, Anthony Antoniou, who was found guilty of murdering his step-father in 1995 and convicted to life in prison in 1997, made use of his right to apply for release after 14 years in prison, which was granted in 2012.
But this was on condition that he stays on British soil, which he violated in 2015, when he came to Cyprus to live in a village in Larnaca.
He has since been wanted by British police, which secured a European warrant for his arrest in December 2015.
Larnaca CID found and apprehended Antoniou last Sunday, and the hearing for his extradition began on Monday.
Pending a court decision, Antoniou is being detained at the Central Prisons in Nicosia.
