New York, Nov. 16(CNA) – UN Secretary General’s spokesperson has said in a statement that Ban Ki-moon “was saddened to learn of the passing of the former President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafcos Clerides”.
“Mr. Clerides was a highly respected leader of his country and of the Greek Cypriot community. He was known for his strong support for the reunification of Cyprus and for many years played a central role in the UN-facilitated talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement”, the statement says.
The Secretary-General expresses his condolences to the family of the late Mr. Clerides.
