Detectives are investigating the murder of a man in Enfield after an altercation arising from an attempted robbery.
The victim had arranged via the online classifieds website Gumtree to meet a man on the evening of Sunday, 19 July, to sell a laptop computer.
The 28-year-old victim, accompanied by a friend, drove to the pre-arranged meeting point in Auckland Close, Enfield.
He was met by three men who attempted to rob him of the laptop computer. The victim and his friend were able to snatch back the laptop before getting back into their car. The suspects made off on foot.
A short time later, a second friend joined the victim, and the three men sought to find the group who had attempted to rob them.
At around 18:55hrs in Lackmore Road, Enfield, they found the people they believed to be the robbers and an altercation took place in which the 28-year-old victim was fatally stabbed.
Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the location. The 28-year-old man died at the scene at 19:31hrs.
A post-mortem examination will be held at 14:00hrs on Monday, 20 July, at Haringey mortuary. Next-of-kin have been informed but officers await formal identification.
Three 18-year-old men have been arrested in connection with this incident and remain in custody at separate east London police stations. Officers do not believe there are outstanding suspects.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the stabbing.
Detective Superintendent Simon Warwick, Acting Borough Commander Enfield said: “The incident that occurred on Sunday which resulted in the murder of a young man has left his family and loved ones devastated. Detectives believe the circumstances surrounding the death arose from an attempted robbery which is being fully investigated by the Homicide and Major Crime Command. We are confident that the incident is not gang related nor is it linked to an incident that occurred at Hoe Lane, Enfield Wash on Thursday, 17 July, where a man was stabbed. We acknowledge that these incidents do have an impact on communities in the borough and we are providing additional patrols to provide visible reassurance.”
