Congressman Steve Israel has pledged to take action to confirm that all positions regarding Cyprus expressed by US Vice President Joe Biden to the Greek American community constitute the official policy of the US.
Israel, who represents New York`s 3rd Congressional District, was speaking at a gathering organised by his Greek American supporters, noting that the Greek American community skilfully approached the Vice President to secure a successful visit and a clear declaration on the part of the US that it recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus, which is a key strategic partner.
He said everyone hopes that the current negotiation will secure a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue because forty years is a long time.
Israel also said he intends to send a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry.
He further described as very important the upgrading of Cyprus` relations with Israel.
Israel was introduced by Philip Christopher, President of International Co-ordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus, (PSEKA), who described him as a fervent friend of the Greek American community and a supporter of Cyprus and Greece
