We need to wait for the ongoing investigation, President urges on 24-year-old Cyprus murder case

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, called everyone to wait for the ongoing investigation and not to get ahead of themselves, answering questions from journalists in Larnaca on the case of the murder of a 24-year-old Pakistani man.

President Christodoulides said that those who have evidence of a cover-up can submit it to the investigating authorities and the Attorney General himself. “It is the police who announced that there had been a shooting and then made public what happened”, he noted, adding that “there is a process underway, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

Asked if he thought there was any mishandling, he said “there is no data before us that leads to such a conclusion. Certainly, the loss of a human life is not a positive development, wherever it comes from.”

Because I hear of a cover-up, he reiterated, “we have to be careful. The police operate in a context. We will see if there was anything wrong either by the Police or anyone else, it will come out. But to urge us to make statements that are not based on factual data I think does not help anyone. It also creates an issue towards third countries”, he added.

President Christodoulides said in relation to the briefing of Islamabad that “we have already been approached and the Foreign Minister will proceed to a full briefing with the Foreign Minister of the country as well. I think we all need to be more careful.”
