We sadly announce that UK Cypriot Andreas Evangelou has passed away

Andreas Evangelou

29 October 1940 – 7 December 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved compatriot Andreas, who suddenly passed away at his home on Tuesday night, 7 December 2021, from a heart attack at the ages of 81. He leaves behind his wife Patricia, son John, daughter Margarita and son in law Stefanos. The family would like to send thanks to all the people that have reached out during this difficult time. Andreas was born in the village of Yialousa, Cyprus on 29 October 1940, he came to London in 1960 aged 20. Andreas was a very committed and devoted community man, despite his physical condition, he was optimistic and never missed an event organised by the National Federation for Cypriots in the UK or the Organisation of the Relatives for the Missing nor the Yialousa Association, the Famagusta Association, and AKEL in Britain. Andreas was there for all Cypriot related causes, he protested outside the British parliament, outside the Turkish embassy, outside 10 Downing Street always accompanied by his wife Patricia, daughter Margarita and son John. The family was active in the community, distribution of leaflets, and fighting for the reunification of Cyprus. You could always count on him to help at any event. But above all he loved the Cypriot Wine festival & Business Expo; he and his family were one of the first to arrive and the last to leave. He truly loved meeting new people and getting to see all the familiar faces from the Cypriot community, like a big family reunion. But his dedication wasn’t limited to the event days, weeks before the event he would come into the office and volunteer his time in any way that he could. We will never forget him, he was a good man, a patriot, and his unprecedented dedication to us, and the community will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Andreas, may your memory be eternal.
