A family get-together in Paphos ended in tragedy on Tuesday night after a woman died moments after going for a swim in her pool.
According to police, the unfortunate victim – who has been named as 32-year-old Maria Fylaktou – went for a swim at around 11pm after previously finishing her dinner whilst also partying with friends and relatives.
At some point, the woman told her husband that she was feeling unwell and asked for help to get out of the pool, which investigators claim was not very deep. She then lost consciousness and an ambulance was called to the house in Mesogi village.
Doctors at Paphos General Hospital attempted unsuccessfully to resuscitate her but she was declared dead-on-arrival.
The exact cause of death will be announced once a post-mortem has been carried out.
