Mystery surrounds the death of an 11-year-old schoolgirl who collapsed and died yesterday in Limassol.
According to reports, the girl was running in the yard of a private school when at around 2pm she suddenly lost consciousness and banged her head on the ground as she fell.
Teachers went to the girl’s assistance and called an ambulance which took her to Limassol General Hospital.
Doctors spent over an hour attempting to resuscitate the child but their efforts were unsuccessful.
After conducting a preliminary examination, state pathologist Nicholas Charalambous concluded that the fall was not the cause of death.
An autopsy, scheduled to take place today, is expected to shed further light.
Limassol Police Spokesman Yiannakis Georgiou confirmed the child’s death but refused to comment further.
“It appears to be a case of sudden death. We cannot divulge further information until the autopsy results are in,” he said.
