16-year-old boy jailed for robberies in Enfield

The 16-year-old boy [C], who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced on Friday, 29 May at Wood Green Crown Court. He is the third person to be convicted for these offences. Police were called at around 22.40hrs on Friday, 25 October 2013, following reports of a robbery in Tresilian Avenue, N21. A group of four males, all aged 16 and 17, were approached by a group of around ten males wearing hooded tops, who demanded they hand over their mobile phones.

One of the victims, aged 17, was struck around the head several times with a glass bottle and sustained six stab wounds to his back. Another victim, also aged 17, was also assaulted and received minor injuries to his head and torso. He did not require hospital treatment. All four victims had their mobile phones stolen from them.

Oyster cards and a white X-Box controller were also taken. On 3 June 2014 the 16-year-old boy [C] was arrested. A search was carried out at his home address and an Oyster card, not belonging to him was seized. Research was carried out on his phone and provided evidence of his involvement in the attacks. Social media used by the suspect also provided strong evidence of his involvement. On 17 October he was charged with four counts of robbery and remanded to attend Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court.

He was subsequently found guilty on 29 April following a three day trial at Wood Green Crown Court. Officers began their initial investigation immediately following the offences being committed in October 2013. As part of this they recovered CCTV footage from a Route 313 bus. This clearly identified a white male carrying a white X-Box controller. These images were circulated and a male suspect, now aged 17, [A] was arrested on 11 November 2013. On 8 May 2014 a second male suspect [B], now aged 16, was charged with four robbery offences. [A] and [B]’s phone data was reviewed and regular telephone contact was identified with the most recent suspect to be sentenced. Investigating officer, DC Andy Parr, from Edmonton CID, said: “This is the third member of the group to be convicted and I can only hope this case highlights how hard we will work to bring offenders to justice. I would like to thank all four victims for their patience and work in helping to send this teenager to court, after such a long period of time.” = [A] was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on 6 December 2013 to a total of four years detention in a Young Offender Institution, for six robbery offences.

Two counts of robbery occurred in a separate incident on 24 October 2013. = [B] was sentenced at Wood Green Court on 1 September 2014 to a total of 43 months’ detention in a Young Offenders Institution, for five robbery offences. One count of robbery occurred in a separate incident on 24 October 2013.
