KOPA Football League Round Up

First Division

Division 1 2014

Livadia 2 Omonia 7

Omonia are scoring plenty of goals in their recent games and continuing that great form that has now taken them to the top of the league. Omonia were ahead in the first five minutes when Yiannis broke through to beat the oncoming Livadia goal keeper. Ten minutes later Vas Krisikos was on hand to beat the offside trap and score Omonia’s second. Livadia reduced the score to 2-1 with Daniel.

The third goal came along when Adem Ali was pulled down in the box and he himself scored from the penalty spot.

The fourth was the most exciting goal of the game when the Omonia keeper saved from Samir then from the rebound Elias shot and Omonia’s Bradley stopped the shot and from the breakaway Omonia scored from a one to one situation where Yianni lobbed the oncoming goal keeper.

Then it continued going that way with Yiannis Varoufxakis going on to score another three goals giving him five goals in this game. Livadia scored a late goal with Samir and hit the cross bar with a thunderous shot from Andrea Kyprianou.

Apoel 1 KLN 0

Apoel take their unbeaten run to three games with this win a game that they played very well but KLN held out defensively and their goal keeper Max Papacosta was in brilliant form and kept them out with KLN having few chances too.

It was a late goal though that won the game for Apoel when Vincent Lwanga beat the oncoming KLN keeper to stroke the ball home.

Also at the game a minute’s silence was observed in respect of the death of Apoel committee member Andreas Aristotelous mother in law.

Second Division

Division 2 2017

Komi Kebir 1 St Panteleimon 2

The game took place at a foggy floodlit New River on Sunday morning but it was worth turning up to watch this exciting top of the table clash. As you can see from the photos it was spot the ball with vision limited.

An outstanding game of football was played with tremendous determination from both sets of players. Nothing could split these two teams in the first half and it ended 0-0 with Komi Kebir winning several challenges and stopping the Saints from finding their footballing rhythm.

The second half started much like the first and played at a very high tempo. And it was a Komi corner that broke the deadlock with a thunderous header at the back post from Jason Lambri making it 1-0 to the home team.

St Panteleimon led by their inspirational Captain Nikos Salapatas, it was clear this game was far from over. The mounting pressure on Komi’s defence saw St Panteleimon awarded a free kick 25 yards out.

Nick Salapatas placed the ball down and shot into the bottom right hand corner that gave the Komi keeper Aris no chance. 1-1 with 15 minutes remaining and now St Panteleimon were gaining confidence.

With 10 minutes remaining some great passing and inter-play from St Panteleimon saw the ball played into Nikos Salapatas who found himself 30 yards from goal banging the ball into the bottom corner. Komi responded with significant pressure of their own however St Panteleimon held out.

Asha 3 Arachne 0

After a very succesful fund raising event last Friday at Hunters restaurant the Asha boys were really up for this game against a strong Arachne team.
Chris Spyrou once again scored a magnificent hatrick.
Asha immediately went on the attack from the blow of the whistle and went ahead after fine cross from Andreas Papazacharia who found Chris and he cooly slotted it in.
Asha with so many impresive players at the top of their game today once again fed Chris a through ball on 30 minutes to make it 2-0.
In the second half Arachne tried to cause a few problems but today it was Marios turn in goal who made some amazing saves and kept Asha ahead.
On the 70th minute Chris Spyrou once again found himself in front of goal and rarely misses from close range to make it 3-0 to Asha.

Achna 1 Pantel 7

4 goals by Andrew Kitipos helped Pantel to a 7 – 1 win against Achna. Jonjo Walsh, Vladimir Bibishkov and Liam Esprit were the other goalscorers in what was a great performance by Pantel against a struggling Achna side. Pantel manager Jack Markou together with his 2 coaches Andy Stavrou and Jack Koushi seem to have got Pantel playing some very good football. The game started with Pantel piling on the pressure but finding it difficult to put their chances away. Once the opening goal was scored the confidence in them soared and they played some brilliant free flowing football. The fight for promotion will be an interesting one and Pantel will be in the mix if they continue with performances like today. Achna’s goal was scored by Chris Petrou.
