Listen to video to see why we urge all Cypriots living in Barnet and Camden to vote for Labour’s Andrew Dismore

Andrew Dismore, Labour candidate for London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, has attacked Boris Johnson for his “extremely bad attidude to the Government of Cyprus, and to all UK Cypriots. If you listen to video you will know why all Cypriots living in Barnet and Camden should vote for Andrew Dismore.

At City Hall this year, Mr Dismore (Photo above) asked Mayor Johnson five times if he had read the letters sent by Cypriots and if he would prevent more adverts for holidays in the “north” of Cyprus being displayed on London’s tube stations and buses.

A LETTER from Mayor Johnson in which he refuses to act is attached. He blames a 2005 court ruling which Mr Dismore does not accept as an excuse for TfL accepting the advertisements.

Mr Dismore has called on Boris Johnson to get new legal advice so that TfL is able to refuse to accept any more advertising from “Welcome to North Cyprus.”

Andrew Dismore, London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, said:

“The Mayor has been extremely disrespectful to the Cyprus Government, and by extension to UK Cypriots.

“It is the Mayor’s job to represent London on behalf of the Londoners He has let us all down.

“Boris Johnson was not just Mayor and a Conservative MP.

He is also Chairman of TfL and on the decision to accept these advertisements the buck stops with Boris.

“Instead of taking responsibility he pretends it is nothing to do with him and blames a court case from 2005.

“In my view, the 2005 case is no defence at all for the decision to accept these ads. It was for an airline advertising flights to Turkey and the illegally-occupied north of Cyprus.

“But the recent adverts were promoting property rentals and hotels. The website address on the adverts links to firms advertising literally thousands of villas and hotels, some of which will be on land or in property that is occupied illegally and that belongs to Greek refugee families.

“I am writing to the Mayor calling on him to get better legal advice on the status of these adverts and to make sure TfL does not happen accept these adverts in the future.

  1. “Boris must apologise to UK Cypriots, and he can make amends by stopping these adverts appearing again.”
