The Philippou Family
The Cypriot Golf Society held its fourth event of the year, the Captains Cup, on Thursday, 11th June 2026 at Dyrham Park Golf Club.
The generous sponsors of the day were the Philippou family of Connect Properties.
There was an excellent turnout of 58 golfers, despite the weather being extremely challenging. The day began with bitterly cold temperatures and torrential rain, before gradually drying out in the afternoon, although it remained overcast and cool throughout.
One of the highlights of the day was the enthusiastic celebration by the Arsenal supporters following Arsenal’s English Premier League triumph. Dressed proudly in Arsenal shirts and caps, with flags flying high from their buggies, they ensured everyone knew who the champions were—much to the amusement (and slight annoyance) of the rival supporters.
Following a hearty full English breakfast, Captain Dino Capsalis welcomed everyone, thanked the sponsors for their generous support, and outlined the format of the day’s competition.
Dyrham Park Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the finest courses in North London, and this was more than the tenth occasion that the Captains Cup has been hosted there. The competition consisted of 36 holes of Stableford, with lunch served between the two rounds, followed by the presentation dinner in the evening.
The course was presented in outstanding condition, and buggies were provided for all 58 competitors.
The morning round proved to be a true test of endurance, with players battling relentless rain and bitterly cold conditions.
It was as much a test of waterproof clothing as golfing ability, and unsurprisingly several competitors were unable to complete the second round. The outstanding morning performance came from George Yiacoumis (12 handicap), who returned an excellent 39 points, closely followed by George Gavriel with 37 points.
Fortunately, conditions improved during the afternoon, with the rain easing and the course drying out.
Undeterred by the earlier conditions, the day’s sponsors, Harry and Chris Philippou, produced outstanding rounds of golf, scoring 41 and 39 points respectively.
Harry’s superb afternoon score secured him victory with an impressive 73-point total over the two rounds, edging out his brother Chris by just one point in a thrilling finish.
Congratulations to Harry Philippou on a fantastic and well-deserved victory.
Dyrham Park Golf Club deserves special praise for the excellent condition of the course, the quality of the food, and the outstanding service provided by all the staff, helping to make another memorable Cypriot Golf Society event
