A woman in her 80s has been the victim of a distraction type theft outside Tesco at the Brookfield Centre in Cheshunt.
Police are looking for witnesses to the incident which happened between 11.50am and 12.20pm on Wednesday, June 11.
The victim was allegedly approached by a woman.
She said that the elderly woman had dropped £10.
The victim checked in her purse in front of the woman and then sometime later realised that her credit card was missing.
Police Community Support Officer Adrian Pomfrett is investigating the incident.
He said: “I would like to appeal for any witnesses who may have seen these women, who were in the area at the time, as they may be able to help us with our enquiries.
“This is one of a number of incidents where people have been approached by someone claiming that they have dropped money – only to find that their cards have been taken somehow.
“I would urge anyone who is approached in this manner to be extremely careful about opening wallets or purses in front of any strangers.”
Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact PCSO Pomfrett via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference K2/14/2001.
Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
