Kopa League teams again prove their worth in the London Football Association Sunday football Cups by both Apoel and Tripimeni reaching the semi finals of the LFA Sunday Challenge Cup after their convincing wins over Phoenix and Groundhopper respectively. The KOPA teams have now been paired together to play each other in the Semi Finals.
LFA Challenge Cup
Quarter Finals
Tripimeni 4 Groundhoppers 0
A very convincing win for Tripimeni and Steve Cinotti versus South London team Groundhoppers who play and are presently at the top of the Orpington and Bromley Premier Division. It was a closer game than the score suggests. Tripimeni led 1-0 from the first half with a goal from Alfie Bartram.
The second half Tripimeni started well when James Wright crossed for Ahmet Rifat to flick the ball home and make it 2-0. The third goal came with ten minutes to go when Ahmet Rifat put Leon Fisher through to chip the ball over the keeper. The fourth goal for Tripimeni was scored when Leon Fisher was played through and he lobbed the ball over the Groundhopper’s keeper and then ran on to it and stroked it into the empty net finishing the game 4-0 to Tripimeni’s favour.
Phoenix 0 Apoel 1
This was one hell of a tough game for the KOPA League team Apoel versus Phoenix from Kentish Town in North London. Within five minutes there was major action when a player from each side Phoenix’s Tyrone Husbands and Andre McCollins from Apoel clashed and as a result both players were sent off and the game being delayed for fifteen minutes. From then on it was a very tense and physical match but in the 80th minute Apoel came up trumps with a well taken goal from David Knight to give Apoel last year’s LFA Challenge Cup winners a one nil win and book a semi final game versus their KOPA League rivals Tripimeni.
Second Division
Pantel 4 Maronites 5
This game just proves you can’t miss or leave a Maronites game before the end they are probably the most entertaining team in the League. You always expect to see a lot of goals and it’s amazing how often Maronites come back from the point of almost losing a game and become victors and this game versus Pantel just proves my point.
Maronites were 4-1 down at one time. Pantel led one nil with a goal from Nick Maronites then equalised with a goal from Lewis Barclay. Pantel then went full speed and increased their lead to 4-1 with Nick scoring a second and two goals from Daniel. Maronites then woke up and shook Pantel with four goals in the space of the last fifteen minutes with a goal from Marcus Archer and a hat trick from Tom Boxer, the last was a free kick from Tom Boxer in the final minute giving Maronites a 5-4 win over shaken Pantel.
