A man who was part of a group who broke into a property in Tottenham armed with knives and threatened the occupants has been jailed.

Diego Correa – 25 (14.07.93) of Devon Close, N17 was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday, 21 January to 14 years’ imprisonment for aggravated burglary; he was also jailed for 18 months for possession of an offensive weapon – the sentences will run concurrently.

Wood Green Crown Court had heard how on 18 May 2018, the victim, a 47-year-old man, was on his way home from work in Tottenham when Correa approached him as part of a group of four or five males.

A large knife was produced and held to the victim who in fear for his safety handed over items of personal property.

Correa and the group then frogmarched the victim to his home address. The group, including Correa, all forced their way into the property armed with knives. The victim’s partner and daughter were at the address and were dragged terrified out of their respective rooms and forced into the kitchen area where they were told not to move.

The group then demanded to know the location of valuable property inside the address. They eventually made off with a number of items of property including watches and jewellery valued at £6,000. They later returned the same night and stole the victim’s vehicle, which was subsequently recovered by police in the Tottenham area.

Correa was identified as one of the suspects and arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary on 24 May 2018. He was charged the following day.

The other members of the group remain outstanding and are still being sought by the police.

Correa was convicted on Monday, 10 December.
