Action taken against anti-social drivers in Cheshunt

Police have taken action against two drivers who were driving in an anti-social manner in Cheshunt.

The first incident occurred on Thursday February 2, at around 8.20pm when a 28 year old man from Cheshunt was caught speeding and performing unsafe manoeuvres in the car park at Cheshunt Golf Club.

The driver was issued with a warning under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002, which empowers the police to deal with illegal or dangerous use of a vehicle. The warning means if the driver is caught offending again within the next 12 months, police have the power to seize the vehicle. If offenders do not reclaim and pay storage fees or recovery fees within a 14 day period, the vehicle can be crushed.

The second incident occurred at the same location on Friday February 3 at 8.20pm, when an 18 year old man from Little Canfield, Dunmow, was caught driving in an unsafe manner by Parkguard staff. The 18 year old man had already previously received a Section 59 warning, so his car was seized.

PC Lee Whale of the Cheshunt West Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We have had reports of dangerous driving in this area over recent weeks and have been monitoring the situation. Officers were on hand to take action against this driver and prevent a potentially dangerous situation developing, as well as ensuring that local residents and drivers were not disturbed or put at risk.

“We will continue to carry out extra patrols across these locations to monitor the situation and will act accordingly. We would also ask members of the public who see people driving or riding illegally to call the police non-emergency number 101 to report it as and when it’s happening.”
