U16’s Gold team Spring Plate Group D game result. AEK Youth Gold Team FC 3 – 4 Northwood FC Red Team.
This week was the second WFL Spring Plate cup game involving a team in the division above us. Having delayed the kick off by an hour to allow the ground to soften up from the previous night’s freeze over, the cold weather produced another slow start which allowed the opposing team to dominate early on and resulted in conceding a goal after 20 minutes from our goalkeeper misjudging the bounce of the ball.
As per usual, this spurred the team into life and from that moment they started to dominate the game with some clever plays and managed to score 2 goals fairly quickly, one of which took a wicked deflection from a shot which looped over their goalkeeper.
The game become quite even after that and we managed to hold onto the lead at half time. After a few player changes, the team had more momentum and started well, getting in some decent chances which just needed a final finish. The game somehow swung back in their favour and they scored two simple goals from dead ball plays due to our defenders just ball watching rather than tracking their players.
A further punt of the ball over the top put pressure on our centre back and he unfortunately managed to steer the ball past the goalkeeper from a back pass. The game become more interesting as we pressed to get the goals back and we scored from a piece of individual brilliance by Tariq, beating three players and then passing across to Alexander for a simple tap in.
After more added pressure we then suddenly experienced a series of over active flag waving from their linesman, which prevented perfectly good attacks from progressing. It all proved too late and we just could not get that equalising goal before the end.
A really good performance to claw their way back into the game but basic defensive errors cost us the game in the end. Scorers: Alexander Barbe (2) and Yianni Onissiphorou. MOM: Alexander Barbe.
