Thursday’s appeal process, over the abandoned league title decider between AEL and APOEL, is up in the air following the resignation of the committee members after feeling intense pressure.
In an announcement on Wednesday the committee members said that following the decision to replay the match, various statements made by the teams and other officials as well as the demonstration of APOEL fans on Tuesday exercised criticism on the members of the committee.
They also said that the aim of the above actions has been to show contempt about the initial decision, to shame the members of the committee and also to “warn and apply pressure” on the committee pending the appeal decision.
The members also said that the football clubs APOEL and Ael refused to pledge in writing that they will show trust in the committee and respect and support any decision that is made.
“Taking into consideration all of the above we have no other choice but to collectively submit our resignations only 24 hours before the scheduled meeting, in order to give the Cyprus Football Association and its members the opportunity to take all the necessary measures to preserve justice,” the announcement read.
