Ryman League Division One North
AFC Hornchurch 4 Haringey Borough 1
Borough never really recovered from a disappointing opening spell which saw a fierce 9th minute shot from George Purcell take a wicked deflection to wrong-foot Borough ‘keeper Ashley Harris. Purcell double the lead from the penalty spot firing low into the corner to Harris’s left some 15 minutes later. Borough stepped up their game and created several half chances the best being when Ishmail Kamara could not quite direct his far post header on to the target. Ten minutes into the second half a well worked move down the left saw Abs Thompson score his sides third with a low shot which struck the inside of both posts before nestling in the net. Borough responded well and a justified glimmer of hope was created after 70 minutes when Rakim Richards met a free kick from the left to plant a firm header just inside the far post well out of the ‘keepers reach. But the three goal margin was quickly restored when Purcell made a swift breakaway down the right and rounded Harris before turning the ball home from a tight angle to complete his hat-trick which unsurprisingly earned him player of the match status. Borough kept plugging away determinedly but an effective come-back never seemed a likely outcome.
