A Cypriot man who was taken ill whilst on his honeymoon in the Caribbean has been killed in a plane crash.
Panayiotis Vryonides, 27, was on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin with his newly wed wife when he suffered heart failure on Friday night. Vryonides was to be transported by a medical evacuation plane to the other side of the island when it crashed into the sea.
The Cypriot had been transferred to the French part of the island after a plane on the Dutch side could not take off because of technical problems. A pilot, a nurse and a doctor also died when the plane – according to witnesses – was seen to by flying very low before it fell into the water.
Foreign Minister Erato Marcoullis confirmed the accident to reporters before saying that a Cypriot official based at the Embassy in Washington was yesterday on his way to the island to be with the victim’s wife.
