After months of teasers, Disney has finally released the first official trailer for the Aladdin live-action remake. The TV spot, which aired Sunday night during the 2019 Grammys, introduced audiences to Will Smith’s blue Genie.
“You really don’t know who I am?” Smith says in the preview. “Genie, wishes, lamp – none of that ringing a bell?”
Will previously explained that he wanted to bring a “hip-hop flavour” to the role with his portrayal of Robin Williams’ classic Disney character.
“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying,” he said, adding, that he “infused the character with a timeless version of himself.”
“I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was homage to Robin Williams but was musically different,” he said.
The remake will arrive about 27 years after the original animated version debuted.
The newly released trailer also provides a look at Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. We also get a glimpse at the Cave of Wonders as well as the city of Agrabah.
