Alexandra Palace is a better venue than Somerset House, the Saatchi Gallery or Old Spitalfields Market, according to industry insiders.
The iconic Victorian building – which this year hosted Holland Heineken House, Red Bull’s Empire of Dirt and a number of high profile music concerts – has been voted the second in Event Magazine’s poll of the Top 20 Venues 2012, voted for by its 4,500 readers.
It was pipped to the top spot by the Excel London – the Royal Victoria Dock venue which was the scene of many an Olympic moment this summer.
Alexandra Palace’s commercial director Emma Dagnes said: “It is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the team in securing and delivering our best year of events on record.
“To win this accolade is even more special, having been selected by opinion leaders in the events world in the face of fierce competition from 420 leading national venues.”
