Allegations on stones thrown to Turkish occupied areas being investigated, Spokesperson tells CNA
Authorities are investigating allegations that stones and firecrackers were thrown from the government-controlled areas of Nicosia towards the occupied areas on April 1, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
Asked by CNA whether there had been any briefing regarding complaints about an incident on Markou Drakou Street in Nicosia, the Spokesperson said that the authorities are investigating allegations that stones and firecrackers were thrown from the government-controlled areas towards the occupied areas on April 1, 2026.
He added that the United Nations Peacekeeping Force has been asked to provide any evidence supporting its findings in relation to the incident.
“The Government condemns any actions that cause disturbance, tension, or disruption of public order,” Letymbiotis said.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
