Ninety prisoners eligible to vote have already voted in today’s presidential elections, Director of the Central Prisons Anna Aristotelous has told CNA.
Aristotelous said 205 prisoners are registered to vote, which is about two thirds of all prisoners, noting that all Cypriot prisoners have the right to vote, irrespective of the crime they have been sentenced for.
Voting began at 0700 local time (0500 GMT) and will end at 1400, with a one-hour interval at 1200. A special polling station has been set up at the Central Prisons with one ballot box, which will be transported and merged with the ballot box at the Nicosia Town Hall.
Aristotelous said the prisons were visited this morning by the OSCE team, which expressed satisfaction with the procedure
