Appeal following armed robbery in Potters Bar

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following an armed robbery in Potters Bar.

Just before 10.30am today (Tuesday), two men believed to be armed with guns approached a G4S driver who was making a cash delivery to the Tesco store in Mutton Lane. He was parked in the supermarket’s service lane.

They threatened the driver and he handed over a cash bag before the men made off on foot. It is believed that they have then ran away in the direction of the Potters Bar Cricket Club where they have possibly made off in a waiting vehicle.

The offenders are described as white men, around 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and were wearing navy blue boiler suits. They were both wearing balaclavas to cover their faces and gloves.

Detective Inspector Matt Phillips, who is investigating, said: “The van driver was not injured during the robbery but the ordeal has understandably left him very shaken.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw two men fleeing the scene or have seen a car being driven erratically or at high speed in the A1000 High Street or The Walk in Potters Bar to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to reassure residents that this type of crime is unusual in Potters Bar. No violence was used during the robbery and no members of the public were involved.

“A police presence remains in the area and patrols are being increased to reassure the community and keep the public safe.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hertsmere Local Crime Unit via the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 233 of June 7.

Alternatively contact the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
