Art acts as an agent that links the homeland with the international Cypriot diaspora and these strong bonds and the free spirit of the Cypriots have attributed to Cypriot art its most important characteristics, Minister of Education Costas Kadis said Wednesday night at the opening of a group exhibition of London British artists.
The exhibition named ‘LONDON TO NICOSIA – ART, EXPRESSION AND CONNECTION’ is presented at Loukia’s and Michael Zampelas Art Museum.
In his address, Kadis said the idea for this exhibition belongs to Robert Kyprianou and was materialised with the vital support of the Loukia and Michael Zampelas museum, Eurobank Cyprus, and the UK Cyprus Enterprise Council, a network set up after the financial crisis of 2013, aiming to promote Cyprus and the development of partnerships between the UK and Cyprus.
“The organisers of this exhibition have chosen art and the works of four distinguished artists as a means to introduce the Cypriot audience to the activities of the British Cypriot community in London. They are: Painters Renos Lavithis and Andrea Tyrimos, printmaker Despina Symeou and photographer Robert Kyprianou. These four artists are sharing the traditions of the British School of Art regarding the use of technology, or the representation of landscape, and the human form”, he added.
