Attempted robbery on 70 year old woman in Pyla, Cyprus

A 22-year-old Greek Cypriot was arrested by Larnaca police on Saturday evening on suspicion of the attempted robbery of a 70-year-old Turkish Cypriot woman in the village of Pyla.

The elderly woman claims that at around 7:00pm on Saturday a young man entered her home through her kitchen door, located at the back of the property.

The suspect allegedly threatened the 70-year-old with a kitchen knife and shouted at her to give him money.

The victim began to scream in fear which scared the young man. The 22-year-old fled the scene but was spotted leaving the victim’s house by a neighbour.

The Turkish Cypriot woman regonized the suspect as a Greek Cypriot man who also lived in the village of Pyla in the Larnaca district.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of attempted aggravated robbery; he will appear before Larnaca District Court on Sunday.
