Australian Greek tennis star Nick Kyrgios visits Tottenham FC training ground

Australian Greek tennis star 19 year old Nick Kyrgios visited the Spurs training ground in Enfield today he is a keen Spurs fan and was pictured holding up a Spurs football shirt.

If you remember in the summer the Australian proved to be no pushover when he beat Nadal at Wimbledon in July this year. Kyrgios fired down 37 aces and played a fearless brand of tennis to topple the world number one following two hours 58 minutes of exhilarating action.

It was the first time since 1992 a man ranked outside the top 100 had beaten a world number one.

When our own reporter Michael Yiakoumi introduced himself to Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon on that amazing day , the new tennis star replied by saying “Yiassou” to prove his Greek heritage.

Nick also told Parikiaki that his father was born in Greece and immigrated to Australia in 1962 and that his mother was from Indonesia.

Michael Yiakoumi said after meeting Kyrgios that he is very humble , down to earth a fine character and with his aggression and skills on the tennis court he is a star in the making.

Michael then congratulated Nick on his win and that he has brought a breath of fresh air to tennis and admired his cheekiness and confidence.

Kyrgios certainly had the crowd buzzing that day after causing the biggest shock of this year’s men’s tournament by bringing the 2008 and 2010 champion to his knees.

JAW-DROPPING SIZZLERS

After dropping only four points on serve in the first set, Kyrgios had 15,000 fans leaping to their feet as he followed up jaw-dropping crosscourt sizzlers with breathtaking down-the-line winners.

As if that was not enough, he irked Nadal by producing perhaps the shot of the tournament.

Facing the net near the baseline, he whipped his racket around his back and nonchalantly flicked a shot between his legs that flew over the net for an audacious winner.

Where American great John McEnroe saw in Kyrgios a 17-year-old Boris Becker on the rise, Australian doubles great Todd Woodbridge gleaned a young Pete Sampras.

Australia’s 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash likened Kyrgios to another big-server with Greek heritage in Mark Philippoussis, the twice grand slam finalist.
