Last week The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Zahra Beg attended various events around the borough and meeting members of the community.

1. The Young Barnet Foundation held its annual fundraising event at Hendon Golf Club. The Mayor attended to support the fundraising for the Space2Grow Fund and support the Young Barnet Foundation – one of her Mayoral charities.
2. Barnet Council unveiled a newly refurbished gymnastics hall at the Hendon Leisure Centre, with an investment of £100,000, which will train some of the boroughs young champions of the future. The Mayor was there to cut the ribbon, alongside Julian Baker, the General Manager of Hendon Leisure Centre.
3. The Mayor attended the annual Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony for Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School. From left to right, Violet Walker, the outgoing headteacher, who retired at the end of the summer term, Alison Mihail, who lived in New Barnet and passed the 11-plus exam in 1957 to gain a place at what was then Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School for Girls, and Councillor Zahra Beg.
4. The official opening of Osidge Primary School’s refurbished library. The Mayor attended the opening milestone, following a preliminary visit earlier in the summer, when Osidge School pupils visited her at Hendon Town Hall. The Mayor enjoyed reading ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ to school pupils, alongside local artist Leyla, who hand painted the library.
