Barnet’s schools continue to outperform national averages

Schools in Barnet have achieved strong Ofsted inspection results in the 2025 – 2026 academic year, with 68% of judgement areas in schools being graded as ‘exceptional or a strong standard’.

A total of 19 Ofsted inspections took place at schools across the borough between November 2025 and July 2026 with 13 of those having had their reports published. Over two thirds (68%) of judgement areas in these schools were judged as ‘strong’ or ‘exceptional’, compared to a national average of 27%.

Councillor Pauline Coakley Webb, Cabinet Member for Family Friendly Barnet, said: “Barnet is well known for the excellent quality of its schools and the diversity of its educational offer. It is extremely positive to see schools in the borough continuing to achieve way above national averages.

“Our schools are at the heart of Barnet’s Family Friendly vision and its continuing success to be a desirable place where people want to live, work and study. Excellent educational outcomes and ensuring children and young people are resilient and equipped to meet the needs of employers, are vital to Barnet’s future success.

“These latest Ofsted achievements demonstrate just how much hard work pupils are putting into their studies and are a testament to the tremendous dedication of staff and the whole school community.”

Barnet has been among the top performing local authority areas in the country in relation to the achievement of children and young people and the quality of schools for many years.

Over the last six years, GCSE and A-Level results in Barnet have consistently been in the top 5% of the country, and earlier in 2026, for the fourth year in a row, every Barnet parent who applied on time for a secondary school place for their child received an offer of a place.
