Turkey understands the need for a Cyprus solution and supports the process to solve the problem, US Vice President Joe Biden has told President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, during a telephone conversation on Thursday, according to CNA sources.
The telephone conversation between Anastasiades and Biden held at the initiative of the US Vice President, was announced earlier today by the Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides via his twitter account.
Christodoulides said on twitter that the two men discussed about the Cyprus problem and Biden`s visit to Ankara.
Moreover, Biden held also a telephone conversation with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN backed talks between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci resumed in May 2015 aiming to reunify the island under a federal roof.
