Bowers and Pitsea 2 Haringey Borough 1

On Saturday BOROUGH were unlucky to return empty handed from BOWERS & PITSEA extending a worrying sequence to 5 consecutive defeats.

The first half was an even affair with few clear chances being created at either end although the Bowers ‘keeper Martyn Guest did well to hold on to a thumping header from Rakim Richards as he connected with a corner. Having been playing against the wind Borough were not too concerned at going in one down at half time thanks to a softish penalty of the “sometimes they are given – sometimes not” variety. That came in the 31st minute and was slammed hard and low into the corner to the left of Harry Palmer who had no chance whatever of stopping it. After the interval Borough launched a determined onslaught and were rewarded with the equaliser after only five minutes when Ralston Gabriel arrowed the ball low and just inside the post from some 20 yards out. Borough enjoyed the lions share of possession and put together many threatening approaches and seemed by far the most likely winners. But it was not really bad luck which prevented them doing so but some persistently wayward finishing. High, wide but definitely not handsome was the order of the afternoon and sadly the ball-boys in the field behind the Bowers goal were kept far busier than the Bowers ‘keeper. But bad luck did strike in the last minute of normal time when one of Bowers less frequent attacks ended with the ball striking the inside of a post then rolling back across goal to give Fahad Nyanja the chance to force home the 2-1 winner from close range. If Borough are to turm their season round they now have a fine opportunity to do so with a run of four games against fellow mid-table or lower teams starting with two at Coes Park against VCD Athletic on Saturday 24th and Ware on the following Monday evening.
