A young British soldier was found dead in a canoe near Cape Greco on Thursday.
The serviceman, aged 21, was seen unconscious in a capsized canoe around 1:30pm, about 100 metres from the shore.
Limassol Coast Guard managed to approach the soldier and pull him out despite poor weather conditions and powerful winds.
Efforts to revive the young man were not successful and he was taken to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, where doctors confirmed his death.
The soldier was serving his duty on the British Bases in Cyprus.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and an autopsy will take place at Larnaca General Hospital Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
