For the third consecutive year, Broxbourne Council is backing the Great British Spring Clean campaign and residents are invited to come together and join the Borough’s local event on Saturday 3 March at 10am.
The nationwide campaign is Britain’s biggest ever community clear-up and aims to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local communities.
At last year’s local clean-up, Broxbourne’s volunteers managed to clear 121 sacks of rubbish. Efforts continue throughout the year with the ‘Adopt-a-Street’ volunteers who together have cleared around 1,000 sacks of litter, helping to keep the Borough clean in between scheduled cleansing carried out by the Council.
Cabinet Member for Public and Environmental Protection, Councillor Tim Hutchings said: “As it’s the Borough’s special Year of Community we’re particularly looking forward to seeing residents join forces to take part in this great initiative. We really hope that this year’s Great British Spring Clean is as successful as the previous years’ with support from residents of all ages and abilities.”
Individuals, community groups, charities, sports clubs and businesses are all welcome to join in.

To control numbers, ensure safety and sufficient equipment, volunteers must pre-register by emailing streetcleansing@broxbourne.gov.uk or call the Council’s Helpline on 01992 785577.
Whilst equipment will be provided on the day residents are asked to come prepared in sensible clothing and footwear.
People can join the Twitter conversation about this event using #LitterHeroes and can also find updates via the Council’s Twitter @BroxbourneBC or Facebook.com/ThisisBroxbourne.
Those who can’t make 3 March but would like to organise their own clean-up can visit the campaign’s website at www.greatbritishspringclean.org.uk or contact the Council to find out more about the Adopt-a-Street programme.
