The building industry has come to a halt today due to a warning strike by workers.
They are protesting against what they claim is a violation of collective agreements by the employers.
Builders Union leader Yiannakis Ioannou said that the employers were taking advantage of the situation to lay off workers and that he hoped a dialogue would begin soon.
He also said that many contractors were employing illegal workers. The builders, he said are not calling for wage increases, but the payment of COLA.
