The Cabinet marked on Thursday two years from the death of former Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and in recognition of his contribution to the country decided to name the Larnaca Airport terminal as “International Larnaca Airport Glafcos Clerides”, an official press release issued here Thursday said.
According to the press release, the fact that Clerides was President of the Republic of Cyprus from 1993 to 2003, that he was a personality of international acclaim and that he contributed greatly in the global fight against Nazism were taken into account.
Other factors taken into consideration, the press release said, were Clerides` multifaceted contribution to the struggles of Greek Cypriots as well as his longstanding contribution to the benefit of the Republic of Cyprus the apogee of which was the success of Cyprus` accession to the European Union.
