Calls for everyone to join forces to help find a Cyprus solution

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has called on everyone to join forces in order to create the prospects for a solution of the protracted Cyprus problem and contribute to the country`s prosperity.

He called on everyone “to put aside petty politics and join forces in order to help create the prospects of addressing the Cyprus problem and contribute to our country`s prosperity.”

Referring to a European Commission decision to abrogate the excessive deficit procedure for Cyprus, one year ahead of the actual deadline, President Anastasiades pointed out that this is the result of the policies followed by the government, adding that the positive economic outcomes are being felt by land developers, employees and other citizens.

As a result of putting the public finances in order, he noted, the government was able to focus on vulnerable groups and help those who are indeed in need.

The Cypriot President said that once the Minimum Guaranteed Income came into force, the government covers the basic needs of those in need, adding that the system is constantly improving.

Referring in particular to Famagusta District, on the east, he said that in the coming weeks he will be attending the foundation ceremony for the Ayia Napa Marina, that the tender for the Paralimni Marina has been awarded and contracts will be signed in the coming days, that in October the Famagusta Land Registry and Planning Department will operate from Paralimni, adding that the premises where they will be transferred have already been rented.

At the same time President Anastasiades said it has been decided that the Famagusta District Administration will also be based in Paralimni and that in June a public tender will be launched to build new Famagusta Police Headquarters, while soon consultations for the construction of a golf course in the region are expected to conclude.
