Alicia Byrne from Melbourne, Australia, is trying to identify someone whose photo was found with her grandmother’s belongings when she passed away. She believes he may be Greek Cypriot, but cannot be certain.
Alicia’s grandmother’s name was Yvonne Williams and she was born in Hendon. She believes this photo would have been taken in London or Essex in the 1940s, possibly around 1945-46.
By way of background, Alicia did a DNA test around 12 months ago and was surprised to come up with Italy/Greece at 28%. Her mother then did one and the result was 49% Italy/Greece. They had thought they were Polish. The majority of their connections on ancestry are Greek Cypriot, from Yialousa or Eptakomi.
Alicia’s mother and her cousin found the attached photo in her grandmother’s belongings with no names or dates on the back of it. It was one that neither of them had seen before. They have been trying to figure out who this man may be, but have had no luck at this point.
Alicia told Parikiaki: “I don’t know if there’s anything significant about this man, but it would be interesting to know who he was, and why my grandmother had his photo all these years.
I don’t want to create a drama for him (or his family) as he may just be someone who happened to have a photo taken with my grandmother.”
